Each original sculpture is created first in solid clay, then hollowed. After this the piece is dried slowly to prevent cracking. Next comes the bisque firing, which also must be done very slowly and carefully or the piece could explode. Finally a patina is applied. This is achieved with a combination of acrylics, oils, and waxes, often layered and polished until the desired effect is reached. The entire process can take weeks or months depending on the size and complexity of the form.
